FISU WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES
The FISU World University Games (formerly known as the Universiade) are one of the largest and most prestigious multi-sport events in the world for university athletes. The sports programme of the biennial event, which takes place in both summer and winter editions, includes 15 compulsory sports, with the possibility for the organisers to choose three more. In 2003, a record 174 countries participated in the Summer Universiade in Daegu. Ten years later, at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, a record 11,759 participants took part.
CHENGDU 2021 FISU WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES
The upcoming FISU World University Games will be held from 28 July to 8 August 2023 in Chengdu, the capital of China's Sichuan province. The Games were originally scheduled for 2021 and 2022 respectively, but due to a number of reasons (the COVID-19 pandemic, shifts in the sporting calendar, pandemic measures taken by the Chinese government), the International University Sports Federation FISU has decided to hold the Games in 2023. Chengdu will become the fourth Chinese city to host this prestigious multi-sport event, after Beijing, Harbin and Shenzhen.
