The 38th FISU General Assembly will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 17 to 18 November. The two-day meeting is attended by 164 member associations from all over the world, including the Slovak delegation headed by the President of the Slovak University Sports Association. The final reports will be delivered by the organising committees of the FISU Winter World University Games in Lake Placid 2023 and the FISU Summer World University Games in Chengdu, held for the first time since 2019. Lake Placid welcomed 2,150 athletes and coaches in 12 sports from 12 to 22 January. It was followed by the Summer Games, held in China’s Sichuan province from July 28 to August 8. More than 6 500 athletes from 113 countries participated in 18 sports.
In addition to the final reports from the FISU Games, the first day will feature presentations by FISU Acting President Leonz Eder, FISU Secretary General and Executive Director Eric Saintrond, as well as all FISU departments.
On the second day, the General Assembly will deal with updates from the FISU Winter Games in Turin 2025 and the next two FISU Summer Games – Rhine-Ruhr 2025 and Chungcheong 2027. These will provide information on the current planning phases of each event, the first of which, in Turin, has its Opening Ceremony on 13 January 2025.
After the presentation of the future FISU Games, the election of the FISU Executive Committee for the period 2023-2027 will take place. The election will include the election of the President, the First Vice President, the Vice Presidents, the Treasurer, the senior members of the Executive Committee and the members of the Executive Committee, for which Peter Hamaj is also a candidate. Peter Hamaj may become the third Slovak in the top position of FISU, after successful Slovak international diplomacy figures such as Ludovít Komadel, who served in the FISU Executive structures from 1969 to 1979, and Professor Dušan Hamar, who was a long-time member, Vice President and Chairman of the FISU Medical Commission.
Peter Hamaj acted as the Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the World Winter Universiade 2015 in Štrbské Pleso and Osrblie in cooperation with Spanish Granada, he lead a team of sport professional and enthusiast for the successful event. He acted as a Sports and competition director of one of the bigest sport events in the world during the Ice Hockey World Championship 2019. Followed by challenging role during the pandemic times of Executive Director of the EYOF 2022 Organising Committee. He is also familiar with the world of sport from his work with the Slovak Olympic Committee, the Slovak Paralympic Committee and the British Olympic Association.
As a Secretary General of Slovak University Sports Association or 6 years Peter Hamaj is leading Slovak University Team and the whole organisation with modern approach in sports leadership with sport marketing insights.
The election will be followed by the confirmation ceremony of the Executive Committee.
